From January 2 to December 21, 2024, the A.M.O.U.R tour brought unforgettable musical moments and visually stunning productions to audiences across Europe. The tour, led by French singer-songwriter and music producer Calogero, celebrated themes of ‘love’ through his soulful performances. Known for blending rock, pop, and folk elements, Calogero has earned widespread acclaim and multiple awards in the French music scene.
A key highlight was his March 9 performance at Paris La Défense Arena, the largest indoor sports venue in Europe. The tour featured 162 ACME GEMINI bar & strobe fixtures, enhancing the breathtaking visuals that perfectly complemented Calogero’s emotive music.
Lighting Designer Julien Peyrache from ALIEN LE STUDIO (lighting design agency), praised the versatility of the GEMINI fixtures: “A matrix of 66 ACME GEMINI LED source bars was installed behind the gigantic video screen on the stage back wall, supplemented by two matrices of 12 on each side. The mobile Pods highlight quality video content, produced under the management of Alien Studio either internally or at Studio BK for the most graphically worked ones. ”
The fixtures are installed in successive rows in height, densifying an already very rich kit. The semi-transparent video screens, with the Gemini fixtures installed in a sandwich in front of a blackout partition, allow the pods tobe used in video or as massive black blocks for beam games. Lighting Designer Michael Berzon noted the dual functionality and reliability of the fixtures: “They have a very powerful white strobe pencil on one side. We’ve had few breakdowns thanks to their solid manufacture. We did a lot of calibration work to balance their colors with the screens, but the results are great.”
One of the standout moments of the tour occurred during "Juste une chanson," where multiple explosions of paint on the screens extended onto the beams of the GEMINI projectors located behind the screens, creating a seamless and vivid extension of the visuals. Julien Peyrache explained, “Thanks to the transparency of the screens, we have the impression that it is the video which is emitting a beam. When used for rear projection, the fixtures then reveal the back of the screens and illuminate the structure and cables, adding an industrial look. The effect is also a little stormy, almost silvery.”
The lighting design for the tour also utilized GEMINI’s flexibility to create subtle effects. During a fabulous starry sky created by the audience's phones via the Crowdglow app, the fixtures were controlled by pixel to discreetly enhance the magical atmosphere.
As the tour concluded in December, the A.M.O.U.R Tour left an indelible mark on fans and set a new standard for integrating lighting, video, and stage design. ACME Lighting is proud to have contributed to this production, highlighting the innovation and reliability of our GEMINI fixtures.
