Reyn Audio Composes a Symphony of Ethnic and Pop with Jay Chou

The Guangxi Sports Center Stadium is a modern venue with a capacity of 60,000 audiences, covering approximately 150,000 square meters and reaching a maximum height of 53 meters. With a distance exceeding 150 meters from the stage to the furthest seating areas, its expansive bowl-shaped structure and multi-tiered stands impose exceptionally high demands on sound field uniformity and clarity.

To meet this challenge, the Reyn Audio team deployed a fully upgraded reinforcement system comprising RAFALE15, RAFALE2, and RAFALE3 line arrays, CANNON218 subwoofers, ABRAMS stage monitors, RAFALE3S subwoofers, along with R1 and R2 digital amplifiers and RA1 and RA2 amplifier rack systems. Integrated with the TURANDOT acoustic system platform, this configuration formed a precisely controlled acoustic network covering the entire venue, effectively turning every seat into a “sweet spot.”

The Soul of the Sound Field — Precision Pre-Visualization

The TURANDOT acoustic system platform served as the intelligent acoustic core of the entire production. As Reyn Audio’s integrated simulation and control platform, the TURANDOT supports both macOS and Windows 10 or above, enabling accurate mapping of system configuration and interface workflows without requiring on-site hardware connection, while supporting multiple scene and group management applications.

Prior to the Nanning shows, the Reyn Audio engineering team utilized the TURANDOT to complete 3D acoustic modeling and pre-optimization of the Guangxi Sports Center Stadium. By analyzing the venue’s unique saddle-shaped canopy structure and multi-level seating layout, the system simulated sound propagation paths, coverage areas, and energy distribution in advance, allowing precise prediction of attenuation characteristics and potential coverage gaps.

When the opening notes of “Sweet” filled the air, the entire stadium seemed immersed in a warm, honey-like sonic atmosphere; when the rock-adapted “Bei Nong Qing Shen” erupted, the rhythm of 60,000 heartbeats synchronized with the pulse of Zhuang folk melodies; and when “Qi Li Xiang” flowed through the venue, even the evening breeze along the Yongjiang River seemed to slow. All of this was made possible through the precise control enabled by the TURANDOT.

Core System — A Powerful Sonic Foundation

At the heart of the stage, a center cluster of eight RAFALE2 line arrays was deployed, while the main system consisted of two arrays of eighteen RAFALE15 line arrays per side, complemented by dual arrays of twelve CANNON218 subwoofer each, forming the core acoustic system of the entire stadium.

With its powerful mid-low frequency response and long-throw capability, the RAFALE15 delivered vertically precise and horizontally wide coverage, efficiently projecting Jay Chou’s relaxed yet expressive vocals, the penetrating highs of electric guitar, and the melodic character of Zhuang folk songs to mid-to-rear field areas and the majority of the main grandstands. The sound blended seamlessly with the nighttime atmosphere of Nanning, reaching every listener with clarity and emotional depth.

Full Coverage — Eliminating Blind Spots

To ensure consistent coverage across all audience areas, a precisely engineered side fill system was deployed on both sides of the main PA. A line array system consisting of 18 RAFALE15 units was configured as Side 1, while 16 RAFALE15 units were deployed as Side 2. In addition, Side 3 utilized 6 RAFALE2 units, complemented by 4 RAFALE2 units as Side Down to reinforce coverage across the inner-field and front-side seating areas.

These configurations effectively compensated for lateral coverage gaps in the main system, ensuring tonal consistency, clarity, and dynamic balance throughout the entire venue. During improvised performances, such as the rock reinterpretation of Zhuang folk music, audiences on both sides were able to perceive even the finest harmonic details of the electric guitar, maintaining sonic consistency across the entire stadium.

Low Frequency — The Foundation of Impact

Low frequency energy plays a critical role in live concert experiences. Positioned at the front of the stage, the CANNON218 subwoofers and RAFALE2 line array extended coverage while delivering powerful and controlled bass performance. Configured in a cardioid array, the system provided deep and impactful low-frequency output while minimizing stage resonance, resulting in a cleaner acoustic environment.

This ensured strong rhythmic drive for tracks such as “Nunchucks” and “Compendium of Materia Medica,” while also providing a solid foundation for the rock version of “Bei Nong Qing Shen,” enhancing overall clarity and impact. The collective energy of 60,000 attendees resonated in sync with the low-frequency energy.

Front Fill — Immersive Close-Range Experience

To compensate coverage gaps caused by system height, the RAFALE2 units were deployed across the central inner-field area. This spaced configuration expanded horizontal coverage, delivering precise coverage to both the front-left and front-right zones while preventing excessive energy concentration in the narrow central areas. For VIP audiences, this resulted in exceptional clarity, capturing every subtle vocal nuance and spontaneous expression, creating an intimate listening experience as if the artist were performing just meters away.

Delay System — Maintaining Detail at Distance

To address time alignment and energy loss over long distances, eight delay zones were deployed throughout the venue. Two delay systems, each consisting of 12 RAFALE2 line arrays, were installed behind the FOH control area. An additional six delay systems, each comprising 8 RAFALE2 line arrays, were distributed across the far-field seating and upper-tier audience areas to ensure precise synchronization with the main PA system. Even in the furthest seats, the audience could still clearly perceive the intricate guitar textures in “Sunny Day” and the delicate piano articulation in “Silence,” preserving musical detail and emotional nuance without loss over distance.

Monitoring — Precision On Stage

The monitoring system, composed of ABRAMS stage monitors, RAFALE3 line arrays, and RAFALE3S subwoofers, provided accurate and stable on-stage sound for the artist and musicians. With high fidelity and reliability, the system supported live improvisation and interactive performances. During the triple encore of “Bei Nong Qing Shen” with Zhuang fans, the monitoring system ensured clear communication and seamless vocal blending, contributing to one of the most memorable moments of the show.

Amplification — Stable and Reliable Performance

The RA1 and RA2 amplifier rack systems feature multi-channel amplification and advanced signal processing, ensuring consistent power that drives every vocal and musical detail with clarity and impact. With Dante network redundancy, signal transmission remained stable and uninterrupted even in complex live environments, while dedicated shock-resistant structures ensured reliability throughout the tour.

From precise power distribution to ultra-low distortion performance, the fully integrated system faithfully reproduced the subtle emotional nuances of Jay Chou’s vocals as well as the raw, expressive character of Zhuang folk music.

Conclusion

From the poetic elegance of “Fireworks • Hangzhou” to the warm intimacy of “Sweet Nanning,” ACME Lighting and Reyn Audio continue to align closely with Jay Chou’s musical vision. In Nanning, as Zhuang folk traditions merged with contemporary pop and “Bei Nong Qing Shen” ignited a stadium-wide singalong in its rock reinterpretation, ACME captured every visual moment with precision beams, rich color, and dynamic strobe effects, while Reyn Audio delivered seamless sound coverage and refined audio reproduction, ensuring that every lyric and every note resonated deeply with the audience.
